After our takeover in January, it’s time to prepare another cabaret show with loads of singing and more to put on top. This time, we will be channeling the Pavyon. You might remember we did spotlight the Gazino culture of Turkey: the glamourous night clubs and restaurants of high society. Pavyons are another very important part of Turkish nightlife, albeit with differences to Gazino. Pavyons feature decadance, extravagance and debauchery. Clients -who are almost exclusively all men- are greeted by consommatrices and entertained by singers. While also at times are hot spots for the turkish underworld, they are also places where cis and trans women ‘work’ together – and exploited by men. As usual, we are channeling this culture in our way, The Harem of No One style, subverting it, twisting it and at the same time getting rid of the toxic heteronormative masculinity.
Your performers for tonight are Darlink Dick, Tahini Molasses, Queen Döner (a.k.a. Doğanalp Dulkadir) and for the first time at Harem’s stage Sissy Sis. Expect the soundtrack of this night to be campy, sleezy, dirty, melancholic -to the point of masochist- and dramatic turkish music. There is nothing like it! Toby Kind will be behind the decks, but with a surprise look.
