The time we’ve all been waiting: the arrive of the Queer Meyhane is here !!
We are blessed to have this event at the fabulous Zer Kitchen of Dalston with their amazing ‘meze’s and middle-eastern delicacies and of course lovely staff ! As The Harem Of No One, we will be your hosts for a queer-touched meyhane, full of shows, friendship and an embrace within a safe and supporting space. Performances will be hosted by the singer sisters Darlink Dick & Tahini Molasses; with Shekerparé joining them up with her beautiful voice and Queen Döner with their performative belly dancing.
Meyhane is a restaurant where Turkish traditional drink Rakı (similar to Greek Ouzo, Levantine Arak and French Pastis) alongside of a selection of ‘ Mezzes ’ which are small food plates of local cuisine that encompasses different traditions such as Armenian, Greek, Kurdish, Iranian, Cypriot and Turkish. They are typical places to get together and talk about individual life dramas. Ways to save the countries from their ongoing troubles are also decided here by the common folk and most political decisions are told to have taken place in such atmosphere (!). Meyhane is the time to laugh, cry, hug, get drunk (responsibly) and dance on the tables (sorry Zer).
Our own version will be a queer meyhane with lot of surprises coming up: live singing, bellydance and decadence !
