COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING. SO HALAY IS EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING IS HALAY.
Harem of No One is back at the crime scene that is Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, after their legendary event in june: The Banned Pride. The Southwest Asian performer collective keeps growing and growing since their inaugurative event more than a year ago and they are getting ready for their biggest event ever with a roster of a size that hasn’t been seen before to celebrate the holiday season and more importantly the Community !
Call it the circle of life, or the wheel of doom: Halay means standing next to each other, holding hands, arms or shoulders, definitely involving leg and foot movements, a non-stop circle dance, sweaty, juicy, ass-to-ass, inclusive and eternal. Like the knights of the round table, we come together as one, that is Halay is only one of the names for what we describe; maybe you are more familiar with Govend or Dîlan in Kurdish, Chaláï (Χαλάϊ) in Greek, Ḥeggāʾ (ܚܓܐ) in Syriac, Yallı in Azerbaijani, šurǰpar (Շուրջպար) in Armenian or many many more, each of them unique and beautiful in their own way. The name, the origin or the language is not the important part, the important is the Community and the Community is what we, Harem of No One looooooooooove! also to dance our asses off until we no longer can’t.
This jumbo size party is going to be hosted by none other cabaret chameleon and turkish bearded bombshell Cazeleon. Resident queens of Harem of No One will be gracing the halls of the working men’s club with their presence and mouth watering performances: Beyond Oz, Darlink Dick, Queen Döner, Sheker Paré and Tahini Molasses are all excited to be back. We’ve said we wanted to celebrate the community and have the Halay, didn’t we? So we have decided that we need to invite the big extended family to this one: Aphrodite Almighty, Jabbar, Kitana Vise and Turkish D’light Burlesque will be joining the core performance crew with their amazing shows, while Aria HomieBaba will be playing their ecstatic set full of Southwest Asian music gems, sharing the DJ booth with Martha Barbra and Toby Kind.
What we need is you, every unique member from our community to be there and celebrate our existence, our solidarity and our creations together and welcome the coming holiday season with big hopes and dreams to be realized. Love conquers all, Halay conquers everything, Community is everything.
