Those who have been to our first PAVYON night would remember how much drama, tragedy and scandal was involved and how many slaps were given. That is only natural if we are talking about channeling the full energy and mindset of a “Pavyon”, a nightlife venue that existed for decades with changing forms and styles; call it, if you will, a Middle-Eastern Cabaret ! Pavyons are another very important part of Turkish nightlife, featuring decadance, extravagance, obscenity and debauchery. Clients -who are almost exclusively all men- are greeted by ‘consommatrices’ who are there to entertain, talk about their fantasies and most importantly ‘encourage’ the clients to order overpriced fake champagne bottles, all the while lit under neon lights of violet, pink and red. However, there is also a stage, supported by a musician ensemble with electric pianos playing to highly modified folkloric classics; all the while women sing and dance to accompany the liberation of oppressed sexual desires. While also at times are hot spots for the turkish underworld, they are also places where cis and trans women ‘work’ together, – and on a darker note have been exploited by men, employer or client. But no words are enough to describe Pavyons, as they are to be LIVED ! As usual, we are channeling this subculture in our way, à la Harem of No One, subverting it, twisting it, making sure all toxicitiy is revealed to be crushed.
