Meet With

Tahini Molasses

She/They

This Cypriot musician and performance artist engages with themes of history, nostalgia and queerness. They aim to expand queer representation within the region’s cultural memory and imagination by making music that blends tradition with contemporary and by reinterpreting traditional songs and symbolism from a trans perspective.

Meet Tahini Molasses, the “Siren of Cyprus” — known for harnessing raw resilience and self-expression into every performance. This Cyprus-born artist uses their craft to reclaim queer histories, with performances that enchant audiences in London and beyond.

Tahini’s journey took a pivotal turn in late 2021 when they joined the collective Harem Of No One. Their artistry evolved into an exploration of identity. Tahini regularly performs throughout Cyprus, often to support queer and political resistance movements on the Island. One monumental moment was being a performer in the Buffer Zone of Nicosia, joining the “Inter-communal Pride,” an annual peace march uniting both sides of the divided island in a powerful display of solidarity. More recently, they performed in Nicosia on International Conscientious Objector Day, alongside Cypriots standing against compulsory military conscription in the north.  Based in London, Tahini is also active in building spaces to showcase and celebrate the queer SWANA community, including with their collective the Harem of No One.

Now, with their debut single, “NAZAR” Tahini is blending the traditional sounds of Makam and contemporary electronic beats. As the Siren’s song unfolds into new dimensions, Tahini Molasses stands as an artist blending the past and future.
